FCC Outlaws AI-Voiced Robocalls

Immediately updates policy after fake Biden voice called New Hampshire voters

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted unanimously to outlaw robocalls that feature fake voices created by artificial intelligence (AI), moving to make the ban effective immediately.

This move is a response to illegal robocalls made to thousands of New Hampshire citizens ahead of the state’s federal vote, which featured a fake but believable AI-generated voice impersonating President Joe Biden. In the calls, voters were urged not to participate in the state’s election. After reviewing the incident, the commission concluded that this tactic, though ineffective in this instance, could be damaging when used in other scam strategies.

“Bad actors are using AI-generated voices in unsolicited robocalls to extort vulnerable family members, imitate celebrities, and misinform voters. We’re putting the fraudsters behind these robocalls on notice,” said FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel. “State Attorneys General will now have new tools to crack down on these scams and ensure the public is protected from fraud and misinformation.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Chair Rosenworcel to be led by the Lord as she oversees FCC investigations and votes.
  • For members of the FCC to be discerning as they regulate the communications of the U.S.
